Enjoying a beautiful day on the Holston Hills dogwood trail, Shannon Herrron from Dogwoods Arts talks with Andy with Wyatt Insurance to discuss Dogwood Arts and the beauty they bring to the city of Knoxville. From festivals to walking trails there isn’t a corner of this city that the Dogwood Arts organization hasn’t impacted.
1. What does Dogwood Arts do?
Dogwood Arts is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that produces about 20 events and programs annually that help make Knoxville a great place to live, work, and play. Throughout the year they celebrate the arts with different events and celebrate the culture with the natural beauty of the dogwood trails throughout the Knoxville area.
2. Where are we right now?
The Holston Hills Community Park is located next to the Holston River and near the rolling East Tennessean Hills in East Knoxville. Each year there is a feature trail and at the beginning of 2021 the Holston Hills dogwood trail was named this year’s feature trail. With a mixture of eclectic and historic estates this architecturally diverse neighborhood is the perfect place for the abundance and beauty of the dogwood trees.
3. What are the four areas you all have trails in?
There are twelve trails across all four corners of the Knoxville area. There are trails in north, south, east and west Knoxville. No matter where you are in the city you are close to one of Dogwood Arts beautiful dogwood trails. Look around for the bright pink lines and enter the beauty of the dogwood trails in any area of Knoxville.
4. What kind of events happen and how do people get involved?
The best place to start to get to know the Dogwood Arts family is their website Dogwoodarts.com. This is the best place to meet the team, look for your nearest trail, and see what events are coming up. Most people think of Dogwood Arts in the spring when the dogwood trees are in full bloom, but they have events all year long. They have events such as youth art programs, the Southern Skies music festival that will be happening in May of 2022 featuring The Dirty Guv’nahs and Ben Rector, everyone’s favorite chalk walk, the annual Dogwood Arts Festival which is a three day weekend event sharing art and culture, and sculptures and murals all throughout the downtown area.
5.What is the community like on a dogwood trail?
The homeowners that surround the dogwood trails pour their energy, time, and effort into creating beautiful spaces for the community of Knoxville to enjoy. Throughout the trails, Dogwood Arts has an open garden and camera sight program open to the public. The roads and trails are open all year for any visitor wanting to see the beauty of the dogwood trails.
